Xiu Xiu present Xiu Mutha Fuckin Xiu Vol. 1, a collection of covers that reflect the songs which have shaped their work as listeners and songwriters. Curated from the bands Bandcamp subscription series, the album gathers tracks that were previously available only to subscribers, now issued together for wider listening. Jamie Stewart and Angela Seo approach each song with the bands stark, idiosyncratic style, reshaping works such as Psycho Killer by Talking Heads, In Dreams by Roy Orbison, Some Things Last A Long Time by Daniel Johnston, and I Put a Spell on You by Screamin Jay Hawkins. Rather than straightforward tributes, these recordings function as both a personal acknowledgement of formative influences and an exploration of each songs emotional and musical core.
