Diametrically opposed to the burgeoning punk seen of the time, Aja was Steely Dan’s most expensive-sounding record with the best session players, the best studio equipment and of course the technical prowess of Fagen and Becker. All the Steely Dan hallmarks are here – the smoothed out jazz rock flights, the muted grooves riding on an almost narcotic bliss, the effervescently tasteful arrangements.
