Cowards, Squid’s latest album, circles a single theme: evil. Across nine tracks, its characters move through cults, charisma and apathy, real and imagined figures caught in the space between intention and consequence.
The record expands the band’s scope while pulling back to something more direct. There’s a sharper sense of structure beneath the instability, with tension built through repetition, restraint and release.
Recorded at Church Studios with Marta Salogni and Grace Banks, and shaped further by longtime collaborator Dan Carey, Cowards refines the trajectory set by Bright Green Field and O Monolith, less about escalation, more about control.
