Though Norah Jones was first presented as a torch-oriented jazz singer, that has always been only a part of her musical skill set. Even her monster debut single, “Don’t Know Why,” features a piano solo that owes more to the sweet Nashville sounds of Floyd Cramer than to Bill Evans. On her ensuing albums–as well as on her country-rock side project, the Little Willies–Jones has showcased the folk and country elements of her always agreeable music, and the live set captured on LIVE FROM AUSTIN TX (originally recorded for the long-running public television series AUSTIN CITY LIMITS) shows all parts of her musical personality.
