The Moomins are one of Finlands biggest exports and have a global fan base. They have enjoyed popularity in the UK since the 1950s, when the original Moomin comic strips were published in the Evening News newspaper. MOOMINVALLEY has the approval of Moomin Characters, the business set up by Moomin creator Tove Jansson and her brother Lars in the 1950s, and Bulls Licensing, their global licensing agent.
Gutsy is a team of creators and producers who believe that the world is in need of funny, clever, gutsy and above all meaningful content. All of its productions are aimed at international audiences and based on a concept of genuine social impact.
The Moomins are currently experiencing a resurgence in popularity in the UK. Last year, a series of major Moomin-themed events and exhibitions took place, including Southbank Centres immersive Adventures in Moominland and Kew Gardens Easter Festival. Dulwich Picture Gallery presented the first major UK exhibition of work by Tove Jansson including not only Moomin drawings but also Janssons surrealist-inspired paintings of the 1930s and abstract works of the 60s, her satirical anti-war cartoons and book jacket designs and the Moomins featured prominently at the Lakes International Comic Art Festival.
Columbia Records announces details of the MOOMINVALLEY soundtrack, in partnership with Gutsy Animations, to be released this spring. The soundtrack will include 16 original recordings from a stellar line-up of artists including Tom Odell, First Aid Kit, Alma, Delilah Montagu, Declan McKenna, MØ and many more.
Gutsy Animations, the Finnish production company behind the cutting-edge family TV drama MOOMINVALLEY, recently struck the deal with Columbia Records. The first series of the animation which is based on the beloved Moomin stories by Finnish-Swedish author and artist Tove Jansson will consist of 13 x 22-minute-long episodes. As a result of the collaboration with Sony Music, each of the episodes will include a featured track by one of the record labels artists.
Jennifer Saunders, Matt Lucas and Alison Steadman are among the new cast members to voice the inhabitants of MOOMINVALLEY in the upcoming animation. They are the latest stars to be associated with the family drama, with previously announced cast members including Taron Egerton, Rosamund Pike, and Kate Winslet.
MOOMINVALLEY will broadcast on Sky One in the UK and public broadcaster YLE in Finland, with many more deals under negotiation worldwide.
