This is the first compilation of Georgie Fames Columbia recordings since 1979s Beat Classicsand is designed to complement that seminal work. While the former went for the hits and the 45s, Mod Classics goes for the club dance floor appeal of 24 tracks that mix jazz, rhythm and blues and soul. Georgie and the Blue Flames,were the hippest outfit in mid-60s London. Their residency at Sohos Flamingo Club was a fixture for mods and American GIs, who danced all night to the sounds of black America and Georgies interpretations of it. Cuts such as El Bandido, Last Night, Sweet Thing and Outrage and Gene McDaniels great song Point of no Return , are all seminal mod club classics.
