Released in May 2000, Mer de Noms (Sea of Names in French) was the debut album from A Perfect Circle, the brainchild of guitarist Billy Howerdel and fronted by Tools enigmatic vocalist Maynard James Keenan. At the time, Tool was already a powerhouse in progressive metal, but Keenan wanted an outlet for music with a different emotional weight less mathematical precision, more melodic mood. Fans of Tool were hungry for new music, and this album delivered something familiar but refreshingly different.
The album debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, the highest-ever debut for a rock bands first release at the time. It quickly went platinum, propelled by heavy radio and MTV rotation for Judith and strong critical buzz.
This DSS version is limited to a one-time pressing of 3,000 numbered copies, includes a top-quality heavyweight tip-on double gatefold jacket and is housed inside a uniquely designed slipcase.
