By the turn of the decade, the synth-pop genre which Kraftwerk helped originate had reached mainstream attention. Not content to be mere periphery figures in their own domain, Kraftwerk’s Computer World arguably stands as the defining album of 80s electronic, offering a prescient vision of machinated human interactions in some of the German band’s most accessible work. While Kraftwerk’s musical presence would diminish somewhat following 1986’s underwhelming Electric Cafe, it is only fitting that the decade which owed an immeasurable debt to the band play host to their final masterpiece, and perhaps their crowning musical achievement, in Computer World.
