Description
Frokedal has been a significant figure in Norways indie folk-rock scene for years, mainly as front person, guitarist and songwriter in Harrys Gym and in I Was A King. Her songwriting is poetic, melodic and often dark, inspired by everything from 60s folk music to Cocteau Twins and Brian Enos experimental, minimalistic pop. Over the last years Oslo itself has made its impact on Frøkedals music. From playing Cajun and traditional music with local fiddlers, to dancing the night away onstage and offstage in the Oslo electronic music scene. After playing with several Norwegian band, many of them being acclaimed acts in Norway, she wanted to do things her own way. Frokedal likes rules, but not boundaries. Because everyone has a computer these days theres no limit to how many times you can multi-track. Im sick of that. Big, busy songs dont touch me emotionally anymore. I hoped to go the other way to remove as much as I could and be left with a beating heart. The rule was that they had to stay simple. If I added a new idea or an instrument, I had to take something away. There couldnt be lots of details or layers. With simplicity as the cornerstone, Frøkedals vocals are given room to breathe, drifting almost dream-like through each song. The result is hypnotic, the effect both intimate and otherworldly; words weightless, yet loaded with meaning.
