Description
In 1964, the nucleus of The Byrds consisted as a folk trio of Jim McGuinn (Roger McGuinn), David Crosby and Gene Clark, known as the Jet Set. As the band grew into an electrified quintet with Chris Hillman and Michael Clarke, they cut their first sessions and were later signed by Columbia Records and put out their first smash album and single with Bob Dylans Mr. Tambourine Man.
Over the next few years, a huge number of hit singles, top charting albums, concert tours and international television appearances developed The Byrds into a very influential band along the lines of The Beatles, The Beach Boys and The Rolling Stones. Columbia Records knew the importance of this entity and soon honoured their favourite sons with their own best of album aptly titled The Byrds Greatest Hits. The eleven song platinum plus album consisted of their biggest chart pop singles like the aforementioned Mr. Tambourine Man, Turn! Turn! Turn!, So You Want To Be A Rock N Roll Star, and All I Really Want To Do. The historic collection also offered some of their finest psychedelic tracks like Eight Miles High, 5D (Fifth Dimension) and Mr. Spaceman.
In an effort to continually offer consummate music lovers with the greatest rock recordings of all time, Friday Music proudly presents for the fi rst time ever on 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl, the 45th Anniversary Edition of The Byrds Greatest Hits.
