Released in May 2022 on Polydor, Dance Fever is Florence Welch’s fifth studio album and one of her most fully realised. Recorded predominantly in London during the pandemic, it channels everything she missed most — clubs, festivals, movement, togetherness — into a record that feels both cathartic and grand.
Inspired by choreomania, the Renaissance phenomenon in which people danced to the point of exhaustion and collapse, the album weaves folk horror imagery, gothic fiction and Florence’s own experiences of dance and sobriety into something genuinely distinctive. Collaborator Dave Bayley of Glass Animals helped shape the sound of “My Love,” one of the album’s centrepieces. Florence at the peak of her powers.
