2025 BLACK VINYL REPRESS.

The Comet Is Coming are a London-based band who incorporate elements of jazz, electronica, funk and psychedelic rock. They are signed to The Leaf Label and released their debut EP Prophecy on limited edition 12 vinyl on 13th November 2015, with the full length album Channel The Spirits following on 1st April 2016. In an interview, saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings states that the music began out of jam sessions with Dan Leavers on synths and keys and Maxwell Hallett on drums. The band members go by the pseudonyms King Shabaka, Danalogue The Conquerer and Betamax Killer respectively.

The imagery associated with the band is based around outer space, science fiction and B-movies, as can be seen in the music video for their debut singles Neon Baby and Do The Milky Way, as well as in song titles and artwork. Do The Milky Way premiered on The Quietus

These themes are also evident in the bands biography which reads:

In the sky will be seen a fire, dragging a tail of sparks

Just as Nostradamus prophesised in his quatrains, The Comet Is Coming: The great star for seven days will burn, the cloud will cause two suns to appear and the big mastiff all night will howl.

End times are upon us people, but Danalogue The Conqueror, Betamax Killer and King Shabaka are here to spread light and joy and fire, for they are Leafs new saviours The Comet Is Coming. Marvel! As great jolts of electricity burst forth from their fingers. Gasp! As their lungs expel musical mantras as seismic as an earthquake, as heady as a timeless ritual. Swoon! At the sheer interplanetary vastness of their cosmic explosion of polyrhythmic sound and head-bending colour.

In an feature in The Guardian in April 2016, the group were described as the true heirs of Sun Ra and praised for their fusion of jazz, Afrobeat and electronica in an improvisational, intergalactic mash-up
