Description

Julie Dawson is lead singer/songwriter of Galway-formed band NewDad.

Whilst on hiatus in between albums, she connected with electronic producer Jack Hamill (aka, Space Dimension Controller). The resulting album project, Bottom Of The Pool, takes a sonic detour from Julies work with NewDad, allowing her to express her songwriting and vocals in a new and otherworldly context built by Jack.

The album, with its central theme revolving around escapism, reflects Julies desire to create something entirely separate from her daily routine. This sense of freedom allowed both Julie and Jack to explore new artistic territories without any expectations, resulting in a looser creative process for the pair. The albums narrative captures this essence, landing as a deep and immersive record that transcends the mundane. The album artwork is a piece created by Katherine Bradford, an American artist based in New York City, known for her figurative paintings of swimmers that are abstract and metaphorical.

Julie Dawson is lead singer / songwriter of Galway-formed band NewDad. Establishing themselves in 2020, the band broke through late last year with their ethereal and expansive sound drawing musical influence from the likes of The Cure to Pixies. One of Irelands brightest new bands, NewDad released their acclaimed debut album Madra on Fair Youth/Atlantic to critical acclaim from the likes of NME, Rolling Stone UK, The Observer, Uncut and BBC 6 Music. Formed in Galway, Ireland in 2020 before the world came to a standstill, the band officially came together for a musical practical at school as part of a final year music project; NewDad. Part 2 of Irelands fruitful music scene (one thats generated Fontaines D.C., CMAT and Just Mustard over recent years), NewDad are here to remind us of the restlessness, anxieties, and relationship hang-ups that weve all come to face over our lives. Straddling the autobiographical with the fantastical, the band also draw influence from modern-day cinema and TV to the serene coastal environment of Galway that backdropped their formative years.
