Description
Aux Armes et Cætera is the 13th studio album by Gainsbourg, released in March 1979, and is considered to be one of his very best. It was recorded in Jamaica with some of the islands best reggae musicians including members of the I Threes, Bob Marleys backup chorus featuring Rita Marley. The title track, a reggae adaptation of La Marseillaise, proved quite controversial on its release in France, but the French edition of Rolling Stone magazine would go on to name the album the 50th greatest French rock album (out of 100). The album sold more than one million copies in 1979 and took French song where it had never geographically, or musically, travelled before.
