Charlotte Cornfields sixth album Hurts Like Hell marks a clear shift in perspective, shaped by personal change and a widening sense of what her music can hold. Rooted in themes of renewal, resilience, and love tested by difficulty, the record feels both deeply intimate and quietly expansive. Recorded at Philip Weinrobes Sugar Mountain studio in Brooklyn, Cornfield worked with a full band including El Kempner, Bridget Kearney, Adam Brisbin, and Sean Mullins, with additional contributions from Núria Graham and Daniel Pencer. Vocal harmonies from Feist, Buck Meek, Christian Lee Hutson, and Maia Friedman play a central role, giving the songs a communal warmth and emotional depth.
