In 1988 pianist Evgeny Kissin, then only 17 years young, started his world career with an electrifying interpretation of Tchaikovskys Piano Concerto No. 1 at the Berliner Philharmonikers New Years Eve Concert. The brilliance and adolescence of the gifted pianist was complemented wonderfully by conductor Herbert von Karajans wisdom of age; it turned out to be one of the Maestros last recordings as he would pass away from a heart attack before it was released.
