Boys & Girls, the full-length debut album from Alabama Shakes, will be released in the UK and Europe by Rough Trade.
Alabama Shakes, comprising vocalist / guitarist Brittany Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg, drummer Steve Johnson and bassist Zac Cockrell, began playing together when they were in high school. Ben Tanner assists on keyboards.
Boys & Girls was recorded at The Bomb Shelter in Nashville, TN. Produced and mixed by the band members, the album is a vibrant fusion of swampy dirty South rock, blues and soul delivered with punk rock fervor.
Alabama Shakes debut UK show, at Londons Boston Arms, was the first 2012 NME Awards show to sell out, so the band added two additional dates which sold out as well, leading to the third show being moved to a bigger room in the venue.
Jack Whites Third Man Records selected Alabama Shakes to kick off their series of live 45 releases.
Boys & Girls is available on CD and heavyweight vinyl LP. Initial vinyl copies include a special dinked 7 featuring three exclusive extra tracks (Heavy Chevy, Pocket Change, Mama). Once this initial pressing has sold out, a standard LP edition minus the bonus 7 will be made available (RTRADLP650).
