Ten is Pearl Jam’s debut album, originally released in August 1991, and it didn’t take long to make its mark. Arriving just weeks before Nirvana’s Nevermind, it formed part of the one-two punch that brought rock music roaring back into the spotlight after the quieter close of the 1980s. While Ten took a little longer to climb the charts, it stayed there far longer — eventually outselling its Seattle counterpart.
Driven by huge emotion, Eddie Vedder’s soaring vocals and a run of powerful anthemic songs — Alive, Even Flow and Jeremy — the album introduced Pearl Jam as a band built for the long run: grounded, intense and deeply human. A defining album of the grunge era and a true rock classic.
