The album’s stripped-back production, tight rhythm sections and interlocking guitars felt like a direct rebuke to the overproduced rock of the late 1990s.
Last Nite, Someday, Hard to Explain and The Modern Age defined its minimal, direct approach — songs that felt effortless but were precisely constructed. Is This It didn’t just introduce The Strokes; it helped redirect the course of indie rock in the early 2000s and remains one of the most influential debut albums of its era.
